An UNOFFICIAL blog that was at the center of a grassroots movement to encourage support for a Hagel candidacy in 2008.
On 9/10/2007 Senator Hagel announced: "I will not seek a third term in the United States Senate, nor do I intend to be a candidate for any office in 2008."

What he has done essentially, is take the Israeli-Hezbollah-Lebanon section of his Brookings speech and added the ceasefire.
I am glad that Charlie posted to the whole speech, because it puts the cease fire element in the larger context.
I am glad he realizes how dangerous the situation is becoming.
Finally, a congressman actually willing to stand up (at least slightly) to AIPAC and state the obvious about the catastrophe in the Middle East. He just won my vote.
All people who care about the slaughter of hundreds of Lebanese civilians, the wholesale destruction of Lebanon and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Lebanese thank Senator Hagel for having the courage to call for an immediate ceasefire. I have never considered voting for a Republican in my life, but if Senator Hagel continues to speak out for an evenhanded approach in the Middle East--unlike his Democratic colleagues--I will vote for him and ask hundreds of other progressives, independents and Democrats to do so too. Thanks for trying to stop the slaughter, Senator Hagel.

Nice to see all the Daily Kos and Buchananite anti Semites flocking to Hagel's website.
I listed to Senator Hagel this morning, and was so happy to hear him talk about running as an Independent. The intelligent Republicans and intelligent others need to come together to knock the Democrats and Republicans out of politics if we are ever going to save the United States.
Senator Hagel impresses me because he seems to speak his mind and wants the truth to come forward about our foreign affairs. I advise everyone to read former President Carter's book "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid." I will support Senator Hagel for President if he runs as an Independent!
