Hagel on the issues - MILITARY

This week begins a series on Chuck Hagel on the issues. The information comes from his new website.
MILITARY
  • Senator Hagel led the fight to increase the size of the U.S. Army and Marines.
  • Senator Hagel sponsored legislation to increase the military death benefit and eliminate the fee charged to members of the American military to sign up for the Montgomery G.I. Bill.

The most interesting item on Senator Hagel's list of achievements was his opposition to No Child Left Behind. This act is coming up for renewal now, and President Bush is pressing hard for passage. If Senator Hagel leads the opposition and succeeds in putting down this monstrosity he has the opportunity of becoming a hero to conservatives who are now identifying him solely with opposition to the war.

doesn't Hagel's support for a draft bother you? that would be a non-starter for me
