Run Hagel, Run!

My heart stopped beating and won't start until Monday.

I really wish he hadn't have announced this - does anybody know who will cover it live? (Unfortunately, I won't be able to update students or MI for Hagel due to school).

I hope Hagel runs. I have a lot of respect for him and would seriously consider voting for him(full disclosure: I'm a Democrat and former Republican).

I do fear that he will go the route of John McCaine, a man I once respected. I especially admired him speaking out in 2000 against the authoritarian elements that have taken over the party and are leading it to destruction. But his current sucking up to those same elements just disgusts me, especially given the futility of it. They will never forgive McCaine for his heresy.

Senater Hagel has said some pretty harsh things about the current administration, as the Esquire article shows. I just don't see the Republican activist base, who are still staunch supporters of the President and his policies, treating him as anything other than a heretic and a traitor. There are still a large number of 'sane' Republicans, of course, but they don't seem to hold much sway these days.

Good luck.

My, my, rather than offer a word in defense of the candidate to explain why the objections felt by so many Republicans like myself to the idea of Chuck Hagel as the nominee are supposedly not valid, you instead take the comments down.

Thanks for reconfirming that the second coming of George McGovern is not fit to be the nominee of the party of Ronald Reagan.

What on earth is this guy thinking? What must the world look like from his chair?

If anyone has even the last shred of a notion that the Senate of the United States is on the same planet with the rest of us, this should finally eradicate that silliness. Chuck Hagel as President makes about as much sense as Ted Stevens or Robert Byrd for Secretary of State. Talk about delusional!

I visited the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s William H. and Dorothy Thompson Alumni Center today, with all of the primping going on around the facility today you would think that someone was going to make a presidential announcement in the near future!

My heart skipped a beat too. A man who betrays our young men and women in combat for political gain thinks that he can be president? A guy who seeks to deny or military the re-enforcements they need to win a war? A guy who has capitulated to our enemy? Good luck. As a former Marine, I would prefer someone who supports our troops -- not our enemy.
